Ocelots Fall In High Scoring Affair
DAVENPORT, FL - Schoolcraft looked to get back into some winning ways as they once again played Erie Community College.
Issander Vega collected three hits in three at bats, but Schoolcraft would fall to Erie Community College 17-14 on Thursday. Vega doubled in the third inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the seventh inning.
Despite the loss, the Ocelots did collect 16 hits in the high-scoring affair, marking their most hits in a game to this date. Unfortunately, Erie Community College had 17 hits on the way to victory.
Schoolcraft tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a single by Dominic Westfall, and a sacrifice fly by Ben Cannon. In the top of the second inning, Erie Community College went back into the lead after a ground out, and a single down the right field line, each scoring one run. The Ocelots tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a ground out by Owen Elsey, and a double by Jace Walerski. Erie Community jumped back into the lead in the top of the fourth when a double would score one run, a single would score one run, and another single would plate two runs. Schoolcraft flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs on five hits to take the lead, 12-11. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Cannon on the sixth pitch of the at-bat that drove in two. Erie would get back in the top of the seventh as they would score six runs to take a 17-12 lead.
Schoolcraft amassed 16 hits in the game. Vega and Westfall each collected three hits for Schoolcraft Ocelots. Walerski went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with four runs batted in. Kayvon Justice and Braylon Schroeder each collected multiple hits for Schoolcraft Ocelots.
Next up for Schoolcraft is a doubleheader against Bryant & Stratton Bobcats (WI) on Friday starting at 9:30AM.
